“RWMF : From The Muddy Banks of Santubong”

When it comes to parties and fest, I always got super excited and this year, RWMF it didn’t change at all. Yes, I was pretty much excited about the whole thing. Initially we planned to stay at Damai Puri which is just a walking distance from the place but since all of our bookings were cancelled for no apparent reason, we have to settle for Harbour View - which is not bad either.

We too the shuttle bus from our hotel to Sarawak Cultural Vilage which took about an hour to get there because the lousy driver somehow drove us to Santubong Resort before he realized that he’s in deep shit. Stupid bugger!

When we reached the place the party has already started. Massive jams caused by humans and astro creeps making life not as easy as it seems to be but who cares anyway - it’s a fest remember? So, I wouldn’t mind the shoulder to shoulder thingy. That’s life in the fast lane.

Th first workshop I attended was the strings workshop. A few fellas with sitar and what not - simply because I dunno what the hell are those instruments and yes there were “gambus” and I pretty much sure that if anyone of you are from Limbang, you pretty much have heard about this gambus.

Nothing seriously that hot that afternoon as we arrived there a little late but we managed to catch a few mini performances such as the guitar workshop and also percussions - which I enjoyed a lot eventhough I only managed to catch a little glimpse of it.

We spent our time waiting for turns to get tattoed at Lim Kok Wing’s booth which we shouldn’t have toeventhough it’s pretty much worth the wait. The big boss’s tattoo was out of this world. I just love it.

Petrus busy inking ..

Now, some people think that the mud is disgusting. Yes it really is but it’s a fest remember. People don’t mind gettng dirty and if you’re thinking you are going to wear your pretty clothes and not getting dirty might as well you pack up your things and go clubbing in town instead you fat ass! I don’t freaking care about your urbanite friends not being happy because of the mud. It’s a fuckin fest!

We entered the pitt when the song aleng leleng was playing. That pretty much reminds me about the good all YCS days I ad. We used to sing this song for mass and gatherings. It’s fun though.

We moved closer to the stage as time goes by and before we know it, we are just in front of the stage.

Another shot ..

My first experience of RWMF was not a good one I must say. Honestly I didn’t reall enjoy the show because I think that quite a number of the bands playing doesn’t really suit the crowd especiall that Palestinian grup. For me it’s pretty much boring and there’s nothing to shout about at Motofuji’s solo drums performance. It didn’t really impressed me much. I was hoping for something more samba-liked, rattamahatta-liked, capoeira-liked and yes, I am dissapointed at the fact that the budget for this year’s RWMF was cut down. I am definitely not happy!

A few things I think they need to improve on are :

Transportation / parking space
I think this one needs a lot of attention. More bus and less waiting time is better. For God sake we paid for the service and I don’t think it is that hard to get more busses as there are money to be made and the parking space, what more can I say - It’s so damn far!

Toilets
You have the moving toilet and that’s fine with me but what was not fine was this :

Toilet was not in good condition, not well cleaned. For an event like this everything should be top notched. I rather not take pics on what’s inside ad outside,it was an eyesore. No water inside the toilet and how could the management overlooked this things? And if possible more toilets please? Because this is not just a majlis persandingan Rokiah and Raub, there’s gonna be thousands of people flocking the place. Be a little smarter next time.

I was told by Celeste that actualy promotions in KL for the thing was decline. The management refuse to do some performances somewhere in KL for some Gawai Fest held. I thought that was a waste of opportunity, you could have just pocketed more if you just did that. What a shame!

But guys, that won’t stop me from coming again next year and I hope the management hear my plea and a lot of people hav been saying that this is the worst RWMF that they ever attended. I keep my fingers crossed that things will get better next time. don’t fuckin’ care about Penang’s Ranforest blah blah blah …
